Graham asks Supreme Court to intervene after election ruling

On Friday, U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to intervene after a lower court ordered him to testify before a special grand jury in Georgia examining whether former President Donald Trump and others improperly attempted to influence the state’s 2020 election.

Graham’s attorneys filed a motion with the court to delay his probable testimony as he continues to dispute the order to testify before the Fulton County special grand jury. Graham is a close friend of President Trump.

Graham’s staff characterized the petition as an effort to “protect the Constitution and the institutional interests of the Senate.” Graham’s office stated that the lower court’s decision “would have a major impact on the capacity of senators to obtain information for job-related purposes.”

Graham’s latest effort to avoid his testifying in a case in which the former president’s cronies and colleagues have been implicated. Some have previously testified before the special grand jury, including former New York City mayor and Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani — who may face criminal charges in the investigation — attorneys John Eastman and Kenneth Chesebro, and former White House counsel Pat Cipollone.
